Riichi Mahjong

Supported by Malinguo's Engine

What makes Riichi distinct

Riichi (Japanese) mahjong centers on declaring "riichi" once your hand is one tile from winning (tenpai), combined with mechanics like furiten (a penalty tied to your own winning tile) and dora (bonus tiles) that add real strategic depth. It's one of the most widely played mahjong variants worldwide.

Exact yaku, scoring, and win validation are computed live by Malinguo's own rules engine — rule data is structured and regression-tested, not generated ad hoc.

Rules note: a Malinguo variant, not an official ruleset

Malinguo's Riichi rule set is Malinguo's own implementation and is not identical to official competitive rulebooks such as the WRC (World Riichi Championship), EMA (European Mahjong Association), or the Tenhou ruleset. Three notable differences:

· Multiple ron is resolved by head-bump (atama-hane) — only the claimant closest in turn order to the discarder wins, not every simultaneous claimant;

· No uma-oka — there is no placement bonus / point-return (uma/oka) system applied to final scores;

· No nagashi mangan — hands are not awarded a mangan-value yaku for exhaustive draws.
